The primary purpose of the course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. It also trains the participants to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.

The RecPlex teaches the American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguard course which has seven hours of online instruction and twenty hours of in-person instruction.

Students must be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course. Participants must pass the Washington Township Pre-Skills Test in order to take the Lifeguard course. The Pre-Skills Test occurs on the first day of class. Registration includes the $15 fee for the Pre-Skills Test. If the candidate does not pass the Pre-Skills Test, the registration fee will be refunded minus the $15 for the Pre-Skills Test.

Participants who successfully pass the two final written exams, with a minimum grade of 80%, and the in-water final skills scenarios will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.

Come prepared to each class with a towel, swimsuit, snacks, writing utensil, paper and water bottle.

* Adjustments and discounts will be applied during checkout if applicable. *
